The patriarchal structure of our society is already quite talked about, but the framing of this film is so important for our young and upcoming generations. A lot of ‘kids’ (I’m so lenient with saying that, don’t kill me) films stray away from political messages but Gerwig’s interpretation of Barbie is both fun and a big ol’ slap in the face.

I had the soundest little nap in my box of a seat after praying sleep would come to me for the majority of this screening. I think I would’ve enjoyed my slumber a great deal more if I wasn’t at the dingiest little movie theatre, though I think my general discomfort added to the atmosphere! Overall, great dinosaurs. Perhaps not enough dinosaurs. I think they focused on the chemistry between Adam Driver’s character and Koa a little too much for how (I say this ruefully) insufferable she was.
Dolefully bland. Could’ve had more dinosaurs. Made me want to watch Jurassic Park.
