  Mufasa: The Lion King 2024

  Okay, so the visuals are dazzling, but I spent the entire movie being like “wow the render on this is beautiful, I wonder how long it take to export it?” not “oh wow this is a beautiful and moving story that I’m loving getting lost in!” 

  The songs were not memorable, and the one that is, is memorable for the wrong reasons. The way baby scar says brothaaahh is burned into my brain and I can’t get it out. 

  Lin Manuel Miranda needs to break up with Disney so he can be challenged creatively again. 

  Meh.

  Kinda felt like an Oscar nominated animated short film that got extended to a feature length. But after learning that the creative team was like a handful of people, I am impressed by the project. 

  No dialogue, just vibes, if you’re into that this will be a lot of fun for you.

  My Pick for Best Film of 2021

  Most of the time if I’m not watching movies I’m watching media that discusses movies. Film, theatre, narrative or even abstract music, art, all forms of storytelling and self expression are things I adore. I strongly believe that katharsis is the highest form of comradery.

  Emilia Perez is a movie that should’ve just been an opera. I feel like so many of the story beats would hit better in a live stage format but on film sort of ring as boring. I think the biggest crime here is not even bad trans representation because it didn’t feel like bad representation, it felt like fumbled representation. There were attempts made to make it good representation.
