As with Summer of Soul, amazing footage--especially the early stuff. Definitely gives the man his due, but maybe a little too thesis-driven.

The Last Command 1928
Watched it one more time (probably my last for a while) so that I could show someone the cable chat I had done on it. The genre was at such a peak when sound came in and fouled things up for a few years. Norma D was right--they had faces then!

Lights of New York 1928
Let's be honest: you're watching this because you're a completist (like me). You wanted to see the first all-talking US feature film. Now you have. Are you proud of yourself? Sheesh.

Carmaux: Drawing Out the Coke 1896
Early but subtly important short film, demonstrating the genius of placing action on a diagonal axis in order to simulate action in three dimensions.
