dialogue-based films with light plot action can be so beautiful and coupled with the concept of following the same actors for 12 years, i really wanted to love this movie.... but ellar coltrane's performance is so one note he looks bored to death delivering his lines, and i actually can understand why because despite this film leaning on dialogue as the main story telling device, it's not saying much of anything.
essentially a 2 hr 45 min scripted adolescent trajectory that lacks any sense of spontaneity and fails to convincingly capture the precious moments that make real life interesting and complex and beautiful. :(
