Three national artists are maximizing their joint slay for this masterpiece. I have probably watched this one too many times on streaming platforms, but earlier, I watched the restored black-and-white version on the big screen. To say it was a fantastic experience is an understatement.

Watched this again at MET for free, with a talkback featuring the director and the cast. Insightful discussion on the film and the story.

STILL LOVED THE FILM. GAWIN NYO RIN AKONG SINING.

This is an important Filipino film that sheds light on the plight of Filipinos during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines. Nora Aunor delivers her best performance yet (that I have watched). I mean, that scene in the bridge killed me.

The film is as human as it can get: from the emotions to the characters' flaws. Apart from that seemingly theatrical Church scene, everything about this screams perfection, thanks to Mario O'Hara's masterful direction. Also, scoring made this film so stellar.

    The last scene: just perfect.

Jun Lana does not disappoint. This is the peak Filipino camp, and the ride to the end has been exhilarating.
