This film ended and I immediately was like “that was amazing”. So well done and left me on the edge of my seat throughout. It was scarily realistic at times and the scene with the boy and the pastry chef made me cry instantly. One of the best films I’ve seen in the last few months! Also one shot… what

Premature 2019
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This movie captured the bittersweet experience of spending your last summer with your family and friends before moving away for university. It also dealt with the heavy topic of Ayanna’s unplanned pregnancy and the subsequent abortion in a heart wrenching way. I loved that Premature is solidly from a black woman’s perspective - it felt you were living in her world and seeing things through her eyes. While on paper this sounds like a coming of age movie, it has some untraditional aspects to it such as the lack of a proper happy ending. For me, that made Ayanna’s story more realistic.
