Black Panther 2018
Formulaic Marvel detritus, far overhyped purely on the basis of cultural significance. Went into this film genuinely hopeful that we might receive something different from the usual Marvel sludge. I recall seeing an article that labelled Erik Killmonger the greatest villain since Ledger’s Joker. I was excited - maybe marvel has turned a corner? Nope. Squint and it’s the same fucking film they’ve made 50 times. Interesting body scars are not a substitute for having literally any substance as a character.

There Will Be Blood 2007
Hard to top this performance from DDL. One qualm - in the final scene, Eli is somehow knocked out cold by a blow with a bowling pin to the back. Wtf? Takes me out of a brilliant climactic moment. But not enough to bring it down from 5 stars.
