animation that captures the smallest beauties of nature, down to dew drops and sun rays... a complicated, sympathetic villain in lady eboshi and the ironworks... two protagonists so resolute and present to their earth and each other that they still my heart... and a silent deer god who always takes my breath away. i love this movie beyond words.

Spider-Man: No Way Home 2021
this movie tormented me. not a single joke or emotional moment was earned. every line was either a reference to 1 of 6 past movies or setting up a future sequel. tom holland's spider-man had all the charisma of a prank youtuber making his fourth apology video. peter parker's entitlement disturbed me: between peter forcefully administering cures to villains while they shout "no" and "stop" and his deciding whether they get to live or die, this movie suggests that young white men know best about our bodily autonomy. but it's ok, he's spider-man! you know he's a hero--you saw the garfield version, didn't you??
