It wasn’t horrible or anything, but certainly not what the trailer led me to expect. (Expect Spoilers Ahead!)
It seemed they tried to criticise and highlight the different failures of America’s social healthcare that leads to the protagonists spiral; but they all seem so surface-level.
Especially with how they made jail put to be some kind of picturesque form of reformation. Yes, all the other systems had failed him, but if they really wanted to fully critique the failure…

Brave, Unique, and Experimental. I’m Thinking of Ending Things deals with such emotionally intensive and dark themes (TW: Suicide, Suicidal Thoughts & Ideation); delving into the gritty existential and the nihilistic lows of depression and ageing.
The passage of time never stops, regrets grow, and life always passes by. The use of stream-of-consciousness, allusions, and metaphors adds a deeper darker layer to the true intention of our protagonist... Time flies by, whether we are having fun or not.
