The Zone of Interest is not about the camp. The director insists on never showing what is happening inside. It is about the state of mind such family can be in to accept to conduct its life as is. One step after the other, we get to see the atrocity, brutality and cruelty of this life. All the details reminding us of the reality of the camp are as many stabs we are getting in the heart and the stomach.

Du rapport de domination à tous les étages. Au delà du seul écrasement d’une famille bourgeoise sur une gouvernante, on découvre au cours du film un rapport de force plus nuancé (mais sans doute plus fort) exercé par quelqu’un de pourtant bien semblable. A l’aune de toutes ces forces qui tiraillent Sophie, il ne pouvait y avoir d’autre fin pour ce chef d’œuvre.
