“He chooses the memory of her. That's why he turns. He doesn't make the lover's choice, but the poet's.”

Just watched for the like idk 4th??? time, tonight, as a part of a screening for a class. It was the only time I’ve ever viewed it without viciously scribbling notes because I was hyperaware of how (in an academic/artistic/personal/spiritual context)  groundbreaking this film is.

Definitely has a lot going on, but also, so loosely tied together in that gosh darn new-wave way that either sticks with me or slips through my fingers. Afraid this one just made me mad. I get that it’s allegorical, but this guy sucks and I can’t spend this much time with him.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but Jordan Peele said it’s worth 130 minutes of pure CINEMA.

I think that Gordy’s birthday was one of the most brutally horrifying scenes I’ve seen in a film this year, a reminder that humans have a tendency to underestimate the raw power of the natural world, especially if it’s been dressed in a colourful shirt or cornered in a movie studio.

I really never expected to leave this horror-sci-fi about alien abduction fearing chimpanzees above all else.
