Beau Is Afraid 2023
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Ari Aster’s only goal is to leave you in the most uncomfortable state possible and his monster this time is an overbearing mother (and a giant living penis).
P.S. Parker Posey is one of the most underrated actors today and we need her in more projects.

Longlegs 2024
Listened to Sean Fennessey’s interview of Oz Perkins on the Big Picture which gave me some more appreciation for the film. The Silence of the Lambs parallels were very intentional and Longlegs is Oz’s love for serial killer movies while also being his avenue for critique on the sub-genre. Learning more about Perkins’ creative vision definitely makes me appreciate Longlegs more, but I still have the same issue with the ending.

The Brutalist 2024
Just wow this is breathtaking. From the score to the performances to everything we see on screen, this is a masterpiece. Such strong thematic storytelling that finds the great space where things are clearly in front of you but not heavy handed. Artists creating stories about artists can sometimes feel self indulgent, but Corbet shows us the flaws of our protagonist early and often in a way that’s self aware but not necessarily a self insert.
With a killer score…Translated from by
