okay, sure, the characters are a checklist of 90s movie stereotypes, the plot itself is pretty silly, and heath ledger’s accent takes you on a mysterious journey from seattle to sydney midway through every sentence…

that being said, i watched this movie with a big grin on my face the entire time. the script is what elevates this movie — the dialogue is hilarious and feels natural, which is oftentimes a huge gripe i have with movies set in high…

second wes anderson film i’ve ever watched, after fantastic mr. fox. and while i did really like fox, this is the movie where i really got just why people revere wes so much.

there’s just so much going on here. stylistically, wes is just in a league of his own. from the vibrant color palette to the folksy score to the immersive worldbuilding to the quick camera movements and liberal use of wide aspect ratios, there’s a super distinct cinematic…

this might actually be the first romcom i’ve ever watched, start to finish.

i love pretty much everything about this movie! great script that keeps you laughing the whole time. JGL nails the “aww shucks”, “nice guy but not ACTUALLY nice”(more on that later) vibe, zooey deschanel is playing a tough role but aces it, and tom’s friends and little sister are hilarious. i usually think nonlinear storytelling is an annoying gimmick, but this is one of the best…

“what if i told you i’m back?” - taylor swift.

i promise you, i will try to be more active on here.

anyway, i just rewatched this for the first time since high school. the script is very typically sorkin, but that’s a good thing - i think his verbose, smart aleck, fast-paced writing style is perfect here. andrew garfield and justin timberlake kill it, jesse eisenberg is surprisingly tolerable, and armie hammer is…oddly normal, all things considered. the dark cinematography is perfect, as is the trent reznor soundtrack.

all around, very good movie that’s aged very well.
