There's good chemistry between Miles and Anya, both come out as sympathetic characters and the action sequences aren't bad. So it's a pity that an original premise gets lost in a mediocre, CG-heavy action flic that's too long and too predictable for its own good. It's all been seen and done before. Oddly enough, the most interesting part is the first half, in which the long-distance romance is warming up.
Eastwood brings nothing new to the court drama genre here, yet this compelling story is delivered with such seemingly effortless way, that one can't help but be pulled into this thrilling drama. It's directed in the restrained way Eastwood has been known for, and the cast does a superb job all around. All comes together to describe once more how elusive the term "justice " is. More often than not, it's a blind business, as it's so plainly shown in the very 1st frame of the movie, as well as in the spot-on ending.
An absolute classic. A sharp, bitter, humane and cynical view on Hollywood that's effective today as it was 74 years ago. One of the best "film noires " ever made, with a brilliant script that blends dark humor, nostalgia and terror. A must watch.
Great little drama that plays almost like a thriller about exams. Tight pace drives it with moments of suspense and quite a few clever ideas and real social commentary.
