The Whale portrayed one man’s gluttony, shame, sorrow, selfishness, guilt, desperation and positivity in a single film, all set in the little square frame that was his apartment. There are a mere total of five actors in this film, yet it never seemed to stagnate. From the beginning, it is a countdown to Fraser’s death, but boy, did Aronofsky, as always, bring it full circle and make the journey count.
After the movie we walked side by side, the three of us unspeaking, allowing each other more than a moment to regain composure and recover from the brilliance we had just witnessed.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a French film that revolves largely around art, but is nothing short of art itself.
I especially loved how the film revolved around the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. When Héloïse reads the last stanza out another time, pauses and says 'Perhaps she was the one who said, "Turn around." ' I thought that was stunning, I'm going to write that down somewhere I loved it so much.
