    Mickey 17

    ★★★★½

Mickey 17 is an enthralling sci-fi satirical romp that effectively mixes dark humor with a surprising amount of heart. Bong Joon Ho doesn't miss here but it's Robert Pattinson's pitch perfect performance that holds it all together. Could be a career best for me.

I'd also argue Robert Pattinson deserves an Oscar nom for his performance in Mickey 17. It likely won’t happen since it’s early in the year and the genre but it’s a masterclass in physical comedy & nuance.…

    Darkman

    ★★★

Certainly a fun mix of camp, comic book film & horror sensibilities, Darkman sees Sam Raimi getting his first chance, at the time, to make a studio film & play with studio money. Alien: Romulus

    ★★★★½

Alien: Romulus is a perfect blend of Alien & Aliens, generating genuine tension & heart pounding action. Fede Alvarez makes Ridley Scott & James Cameron proud while Cailee Spaney, David Jonsson & the rest of the cast give the film its emotional core. Beyond impressed.

Cailee Spaeny is an absolute star in the film. She has proven this in other projects but she exudes equal parts tenacity, vulnerability, & strength in the role of Rain. Stands alongside Sigourney Weaver's Ripley with pride & carries a lot…

    Longlegs

    ★★★★★

After fully digesting Longlegs, I have to say Osgood Perkins has directed a masterclass in lingering dread & unease. I felt every ounce of atmosphere across every frame & despite not being scary in the classical sense, I'm still unnerved by its attack on my senses.
