Just polished off this movie, and I have to say it was actually fairly enjoyable. I was thoroughly invested in the buildup during the first act, and simultaneously put on edge by the lingering sense of discomfort I felt during the second. This film was absolutely fine. There is no better word to describe this film than just completely and utterly OK. It stars Aaron Pierre (who I had to look up to remember that he was in M. Night Shagyanan’s ‘Old’ - oof) as a stereotypical ex-military guy who gets tangled up with the corrupt police force in a backwater town.

I went into this film not expecting much aside from a cheesy comedy but it turned out to be so much more.
The film took some unexpected turns that I was pleasantly surprised by, and ultimately ended up being a crucial lesson in not judging a book by its cover. It served a reminder to be kind to anyone you meet because you never really know what someone else is going through.
The ending was extremely bittersweet but overall I came away from The Holdovers feeling satisfied by the movie, and I would highly recommend it! Cheerio!
