  Definitely a nihilistic (and perhaps most real) take on the Christmas movie genre. Loved that narration over the whole film and film noir is film noir if you know what I mean -- would watch again when I want to feel the emptiness of life and remember how lonely it can get amidst these holiday blues.

  A visually stunning and creatively-indulgent film which caps Miyazaki's obviously incredible career.

  I saw this at VIFF at a time when I was very sleepy and socially anxious. I would not recommend this viewing experience, and I do think it quite negatively impacted my ability to fully be captured by this film and the wholeness and fullness of the world created and displayed before me.
