this film contains many emotionally and comedically powerful scenes with real staying power. we'll all still laugh thinking about mob goons yelling about The Phones years down the line.
where it fails is that none of these scenes have any real relevance to its titular character, anora. after 2ish hours of after hours+good time inspired, bad-night-in-new-york spectacle, she's been given no room to reflect, grow, or be meaningfully represented in a movie whose sole purpose is to portray her life.…
