I found this extremely endearing and fun. The whole beginning feels like being introduced to a new neighbourhood for sure, and I got attached to obviously expendable characters very quickly.
The ending is what derailed the whole thing for me. For the characters in this village to be killing each other and popping like flies just for the sake of the "neighbours should be good" message felt a bit low effort, in my opinion.
I watched this movie and forgot to rate it, so this will not be a fresh take. I just remember having the worst case of cultural shock by watching this movie. Yes, it's not that old and culture has not drifted that much (has it?) to what it was back then but JESUS...

Also, the dinner comment on whether Africa or Asia was full of starving children was probably very fitting for the mentality of the time but I had to take a minute to recompose myself.

This film has some pretty beautiful shots and some very nice editing. It's a breath of fresh air to the horror genre and I love it. My only disappointment is the final scene, which, in stark contrast to the rest of the movie, is very confusing and frantic.
