  this shit was so good and eerie
  like picnic (as of now the only movie I’ve seen from shunji iwai), the movie is somewhat polarizing. I usually dislike “ modern fairytales”, due to the endings often being TOO unrealistic and lovey dovey. however swallowtail butterfly stands out with its artistic scenes and even gory ones (which makes it even more visually appealing). its a shame these scenes often go unnoticed. additionally, the director emphasizes a strong personality on each character, which keeps this nearly 3 hour long movie engaging.
