  Really well shot and sound designed film. While I still question some of the motivations of the lead it's an arresting film that keeps you guessing how it's going to play out, and where it's even going.

  Jimmy Stewart is an honest, moral man, and he takes on the nazi's. It's tough at the moment not to view this movie from a modern perspective. Of course those that refuse to remember history are doomed to repeat it. It doesn't matter that they'll try to take the rest of us with them even if we say, hey listen, this has happened before, why don't you try a little self awareness instead of just blind obedience.   Portrait of a Lady on Fire 2019

  The cinematography is very painterly. And the artistic side of how art is created and shaped was interesting, but gosh darn I didn't care about either of these characters. I liked the callback at the end at the opera to what they lost, and that long shot was expertly acted, but otherwise I was just wanting to get the movie done.
  Does it deserve to be on the 1001 list? From an LGBTQ perspective, sure. But I'm putting it down as a maybe from my POV.
