The cinematography is very painterly. And the artistic side of how art is created and shaped was interesting, but gosh darn I didn't care about either of these characters. I liked the callback at the end at the opera to what they lost, and that long shot was expertly acted, but otherwise I was just wanting to get the movie done.
Does it deserve to be on the 1001 list? From an LGBTQ perspective, sure. But I'm putting it down as a maybe from my POV.
