don't let the half-heartedly localized title fool you here, this is a most wonderful and attentive romp through the little bits of the french countryside. i did initially struggle a bit with reconciling the film's spontaneous flow with the colossal amount of work that it probably took both behind the scenes and on site to make these photography projects work. but as i warmed to its playful arthouse tone, this skepticism kinda melted away. it's a nice time!

rewatched on telly. still very good even without the help of The Big Screen. very much a film for the sake of filmmaking though, the characters were very much Actors in a way that would feel jarring in any other film. mad props to the extras who probably had to try so hard to not look at the camera and ruin the shot

i mean.. it's got a lot of parts that did not need to be there, plenty of the jokes don't land or just suck, and it's just generally very 2000s comedy-y. but also i watched it the whole way through two days in a row and enjoyed it both times so that's got 2 say something.
