After recommending this movie to a few people, the reaction is either "meh--good" or "one of the best movies I've ever seen." I think it depends on where you are and what's happened in your life, as it deals with nostalgia and time in a way that is quite specific.
I originally watched it a few years ago with zero expectations because of a Netflix recommendation, and it immediately became one of my all-time favorites. I just watched it again yesterday and can confirm it's still up there. The photography and the scenes with Sumire's character are incredible.
