Is my one-sentence synopsis, I'd add at times sensitive, preachy, clumsy, and visually masterful. My overall review is "it was fine" with some great little moments. I think, besides some great sequences I found adept, the whole thing could be cut down to enhance the magical imagery of Italy in what would make a beautifulย Donovan music video. Fire and Sword 1982
Watched a rare edit. A fragmented German version with English subtitles. I don't suggest the theatrical version or the versions available (at the moment anyway in 2020) which are poor quality DVDs or VHS tapes. Anything else seemed to ruin the mood and beautiful cinematography (oh god, the sleepy low contrast lighting and the earth tones, the textures...they need to restore this to even further enhance what I'm talking about).
