The Book of Life 2014
The animation is really neat, but besides that I don’t like it very much.
It has the “she’s-not-like-other-girls” misogyny element, which just caused me to zone out and start thinking about how the reason this type of character is a thing is because men don’t want to think about how femininity is a performance, and therefore idealize this sort of “strong, natural woman” who is still conventionally feminine but just in a way that doesn’t draw attention to the performance…Translated from by -

Captures the overall silliness of American cryptid culture, with an ending that felt genuinely tense and disturbing.
That said, forced pregnancy feels like a bit of a heavy topic to put in your, uh, silly cryptid movie. Not entirely sure about how I feel about that. I’ll have to mull over my discomfort.Translated from by

Nirvana the Band the Show 2007
Consistently the worst part of this show (both the webseries and to a lesser extent the tv series) is the racial stuff I think. I know the characters are supposed to be awful and cringe and it’s meant to be satirical, but it keeps entering into “your honor, I murdered that guy as a commentary on how bad murder is” territory. Maybe I’m out of line saying this as a white guy, but if I’m out of line for pointing…
