A Real Pain 2024
I was supposed to see this the day after the election and I’m glad I waited cuz I think I would’ve rolled my eyes so hard at almost everything about it on November 6th. It’s really beautiful though, wonderfully acted and so well directed.

This movie is a wild ride. I still haven’t decided if I think it’s a good movie but I was thoroughly entertained the entire time. It’s like you’re watching Evita - not sure why everyone’s singing everything but okay good for them. Then all of a sudden it’s a batshit trans narrative that just keeps evolving into more insanity. And because Zoe and Karla (and honestly Selena) are giving such brilliant performances, I stayed completely captivated.

This movie made me want to chain smoke and listen to Joni Mitchell because I now understand everything she said about Bob Dylan. Monica Barbaro was great as Joan Baez though. Wish they made a movie about her instead.
