Far from repetitive — the migratory urges are so real and tempting especially in Asian contexts, where queer existence is systemically stamped out. And yet, in light of communitarian and family-above-all mores, the obligation to stay still painfully remains. The tension between yearning and pulling away was illustrated so poignantly in the camcorder aesthetic. The film communicated a still very relevant perspective, but yet also still reminds us of those who cannot afford to take flight. There is a lack of intersectional representation in queer media, no doubt, but to disregard queer stories — even those from majority queer identities — is misplaced.
