For all its deliberately confusing and opaque storytelling, at the end of tye day, this is the story of a guy who gets fucked over by everyone around him, that the world continuously dumps on, and when given the opportunity to be selfish and walk away with a lot of money, he doesn't take it. Instead he saves Owen Wilson, the only decent guy in the whole film. It's kinda sweet.
