An absolutely stunning work of animation.
Almost every frame exudes emotion. Not in spite of its stripped back visual style, but almost certainly because of it. The few details we do get are so fundamental to what is being shown that our imagination has the freedom to fill in any gaps and help this feel like flipping through an old fairy tale. Feels like an amalgamation of Alien, Aliens and Alien: Isolation, but sadly does not have as strong of an identity of its own. I liked the characters, but at the same time i wanted a bit more from them.
Looks gorgeous and nails the atmosphere and astetics, but still, something is missing. Though i can't quite say what, since i really did like quite a lot of it.
Honestly might even bump this up half a star if i were to take the time and rewatch the whole franchise. But since i currently have Aliens at 4 stars, i don't want to do that yet
The setup stuff at the end took me out of it a bit, but aside from that an excellent horror movie. Even if nun/church/satanic possession stuff isnt my favourite.
Oh, and what an arsenal of disturbing, bizarre and shocking scenes, especially the one in front of the church. I feel like there should be a special award for performances like that.
