genuinely compelling elements like the gorgeous animation, soundtrack and interesting concept are ruined by incest, cliche romance and just weird perverted moments (why are they animating ass or panty shots of 14 year old's it quite literally serves no narrative function). Taxi Driver 1976
the symbolic usage of red and disordered pace, jumping from abrupt cuts to long dolly shots, makes for extremely compelling cinematography, and combined with travis's complex characterization this movie should have been perfect for me. Unfortunately, the story starts to meander halfway through, most scenes lacking the substance to make sufficient additions and disrupting the flow. Although it does eventually circle back near the end of the movie, the film could definitely benefit from a tighter, shorter structure, one that more closely focuses on scenes important to the themes of the story.
