  I think the first time I watched this I was off like a 30mg edible watching the director’s cut and woweezowee that was an experience.

  It’s one of the best movies ever made, I just wish Marlon Brando wasn’t such a massive scumbag.

  It’s as good and as entertaining as you’ve heard. It’s barely over an hour long and has that perfect mix of 80s sincerity, accidental hilarity, and some quality one liners. It has a lot of what makes for a good bad movie where normalcy is suddenly cut short by absurdity but not enough in this movie where you don’t care about (most) of the cast.   I just don’t know why you’d ever watch this over Shin Godzilla. I think my issue with the film is that the drama and human stakes are extremely predictable and only selectively tackle the social/personal reality of a post WW2 Japan. I think the 1954 movie is still superior in every way for tackling similar themes but I can see how people would be very moved or invested in the human drama of this film.   Your creepy neighbor/uncle is dropped into a low-budget fetish oriented bloodsport knock-off and keeps kicking dudes in the balls. You feel greasy watching this thing. If you’re in the mood for some distasteful sleaze and have seen a fair amount of trash, this has some decently funny bits. Don’t watch while sober or with people you care for.
