This movie just GOES. After all the set up within the first 30 minutes or so, every scene afterwards is just suspense. Not a minute is wasted, showing how clever and dangerous the Joker is to Gotham and its criminal underworld.
Heath Ledger commands the most attention with his portrayal of the Joker; definitely outshining Christian Bale’s Batman. While he is the protagonist, Batman feels more like a vehicle for the audience to explore the characters of Harvey Dent and the Joker.

Saw this movie for copium after getting rejected. Walked out with a new personality.
The first Batman movie to truly embrace the noir, detective tone. Gotham’s atmosphere is grungy, dark, and gothic; the only Gotham besides Tim Burton’s to actually have personality.
Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon was a supporting role, but I appreciated his performance a lot more.
At some point you do feel the runtime, but it’s a necessary hour to wrap up the story.
