despite always being very sceptical towards films centered on the agony of egotistical men, i can't help but be not only entertained by but invested in Carmelo Bene's films each time. the theatrical playfulness and self-irony make it impossible for me to take these characters (or him in general) at face value, and see him as anything else but ridiculous. it is also the inventive, experimental features that make it a difficulty to sympathize w the characters played by him.…

Nino Manfredi escaping the suicide ward to seduce his boss while in drag so that he doesn't sleep with his wife Catherine Spaak.... women knew how to drive men crazy back then. you don't see things like this on screen anymore... and the absolute dedication to that drag performance. they said gay rights!
