I was pleasantly surprised to have had a lot of fun with this. There are long stretches in the beginning when the comedy either doesn't hit or just isn't there. Fortunately the story is intriguing and unique enough to maintain attention. There is a decent spin on mythology inter-mixing in the overall world which I thought was interesting. There are hints of something like Rise of the Guardians, and with some more heart mixed in this could've approached that type…

I was so completely mesmerized by this movie that I didn't even realize I had finished my popcorn until my hand reach for the bottom of the bag. Villenueve creates such intrigue with every aspect of this movie; the reveal, the language barrier breaking, the twist, the political and international disagreements, etc. Amy Adams most definitely deserves an Oscar nod for this performance.
