Possibly the best thing CNN has ever made.
Far from a perfect movie with plenty of unintentionally hilarious dialogue. However, I enjoyed this flick much more than the general critical consensus did. It’s a ride and I can’t hate a movie that actually mentions “Neo-Luddite's” and is sympathetic towards Ellul’s understanding of a technological society. Perhaps the critics don’t like a film where the “experts” are shown to be power hungry and insane.
The acting was great and the children were very believable. Excellent child actors. However, I felt the daily trials lacked a cohesive narrative, and Halley made me furious! Some of the most illogical spirituality I’ve seen in a flick with contradicting religious beliefs somehow agreeing in a confused boys head. What I’m trying to say is, this might be the singular movie in which I actually agree more with the irreligious beliefs expressed by another character. That said, it’s otherwise a fairly solid and intriguing survival movie and I still appreciated some aspects of our protagonists call to God, as muddled and misunderstood it sometimes seemed.
