A few thoughts:
• I now have a better appreciation for open ended films
• the film itself is so clear with what’s it’s trying to say yet it at no point felt shoved down my throat
• I would have loved to be in the theatre when this played at Cannes (and won)
• regarding the previous point you could say it’s ironic but in reality it’s really unironic
• rest in peace Charlbi Dean Kriek, you were a phenomenal actress

Midnight Express 1978
A great movie with incredible realism. However after further reading on the true story it’s a shame it didn’t stick closer to the source material. This being Hayes’ escape from prison and how it was actually MORE cinematic in real life. Furthermore, it completely demonises the people of Turkey and the Middle East in general. Perhaps this is hard to avoid as much of the movie does take place in a hellish prison filled with violent criminals and sadistic guards…
