The Witch 2015
I love this depiction of how witches and intense religious psychosis impacted pilgrims. When the human mind is already in a vulnerable state, believing in a God that put us on this Earth inherently riddled with sin, they'll search for any reason to explain strange things happening. Obviously in this movie the witch was actually real, but they never suspected that there was an outside force. They accused each other, which is incredibly realistic of that time period. I love Robert Eggers work and I'm happy he went out of his way to make it historically accurate with texts and scriptures.

This film is pretty silly and has some decent practical effects. The mysterious killer in the film gruesomely murdering teenagers is funny as fuck as always. The girl at the end being revealed to have been forcefully transitioned was kind of a weird twist but it was the 80s. Decent movie

Tbh really disappointing. Had a lot going for it as far as themes go, but just totally fumbled the execution. The twist was boring and slightly infuriating. Am I supposed to realistically believe that a 13 year old and a 9 year old successfully pulled off drugging and gaslighting their dad's girlfriend? Removing every single piece of evidence in their paths without fail? Allowing it to go on for as long as they did? "Sin" written on duct tape was corny asf also. Dog dies, not cool
