I used to have an aggressive Jungian analyst who would guide me through an exercise of breathing, clenching my asshole, and wiggling my toes to insistently press "do you feel the sadness?" After enduring Peter Vack’s dizzying and inventive simile for the inescapable and often cruel miasma of the present, I can finally say I do feel the sadness. To be born is to be abandoned and Betsey’s masterful performance invites us to yearn for love, for hope, to be chosen, to fight for life or even merely to be seen among the chaos that also intoxicates us.
