It goes without saying that this film is a tense, thrilling and effecting masterpiece. With Kubrick at the helm and Nicholson giving a classically Nicholson performance, the film is given the scare factor and atmosphere the story deserves.

The Godfather 1972
It's not exactly a stretch to call this film a masterclass in just about everything. From the incredible storytelling of Mario Puzo to the nigh unmatched direction of Coppola, this film is cinema at it's finest. The beginning of a tragedy of Shakespearean proportion, the acting, writing and directing come together into a beautiful symphony of something that can only be described as magnificent. This film is the mafia genre at it's best and, were it not for it's successor, would easily be the greatest work to hold the names of Pacino, Brando, Coppola and Puzo
