The acting is good. The characters are interesting. There are a lot of complex emotions going on as we watch two men saddled with grief antagonize one another. At first, it does feel like this antagonism goes from 0 to 7 in a flash despite how slowly it's introduced, but it does make sense. It's hard to consider either of these two characters heroic, and that's what makes the film interesting. There are a few other major characters, most of…

    The Mangler

    ★★★½

The acting is usually good. There are several engaging performances, but it ought to be obvious that Robert Englund easily steals this show. There are certainly a few instances of lesser performances, but they aren't bad enough to delve too much into. The characters are decent. I do feel like part of Officer John Hunton's development feels both forced and unnecessary. This is because it kind of comes out of nowhere. It comes and goes when it's convenient and is…

    Bakemono

    ★★★½

Bakemono was written and directed by Doug Roos. It takes place in Japan and follows numerous characters as they enter an Airbnb. Little do they know, the grounds are haunted by a foul entity.

The characters are interesting. There isn't one who gets the amount of exploration or development the audience might expect from a protagonist because there is no central protagonist. Almost none of the characters are one-dimensional. There is a recurring theme of repressed thoughts and emotions, and that makes it easy to give depth to the…

    Aimy in a Cage

    ★★★½

Aimy in the Cage is about a girl? woman? girman? named Aimy who is ultimately locked away in her room during the end of the world.

Pee-wee playhouse. This movie feels like a devious kind of Pee-Wee world, as it is a world where all the characters but one are grown, but none of them have achieved an ounce of maturity. It could be that this is because the movie hopes to achieve a sort of story book nature, like…
