    The Last Showgirl

The Last Showgirl could just as easily have been called The Last Romantic

As Shelly, Pamela Anderson utilizes four decades worth of pain, frustration, love, passion, and, most importantly, hope, for us all to see. A perfect companion piece to her Netflix documentary from a couple of years ago, Anderson’s Vegas dancer embodies all of the qualities that she herself naturally possesses. Shelly easily becomes an alter ego for the figure that represents all the highs and lows of celebrity…

    Juror #2

    ★★★★★

I drove to Houston (approx. 500 miles away) to see this movie.

Warner Bros., if you're listening, it was worth every mile.

My favorite films this year (Joker: Folie a Deux, Megalopolis, and Conclave) all depict individuals at odds with broken systems, tasked with either fixing them, continuing to dismantle them, or simply surviving them.

Leonard Bernstein: Reaching for the Note

An incredible portrait of the artist; an even greater appreciation of the man.

This is the ideal companion piece to Maestro, while also showing the perfection of Bradley’s performance & interpretation of Bernstein.

    The Substance

    ★★★★

As is the case with an increasing number of films from up and coming directors, The Substance is undone by an ending so bad that it would be laughable if not for everything that precedes it. Very similar to my experience with Love Lies Bleeding earlier this year, another perfect film fails to stick the landing; instead choosing to implode.

But whereas LLB lost me in the final few minutes, The Substance runs out of stabilizing juice with what felt like an…

    ★★★★½

I’ve waited years for Zac Efron to finally get a shot in a major dramatic role to prove what a tremendous talent he is. The Iron Claw is that shot.
