Instead of renting as would have been wiser, I bought this on a whim.
I am glad that I did.
A slow burn as most Irish films are, it opened tragic, and continued that tragedy but inserted layers of hope, and beauty.
In short, this is about found family, and making a good life with bad circumstances; however, it is so much more to me even after a whimsical purchase.
Rather tropey, but not necessarily in a bad way—touches on one subject that I love:
When asked who counts as Egyptian, one character (pro-Pan-Arab Islamic) is asked by another if Copts are not Egyptian then.
I was like, “Did they really just touch on that?”
Brave for a Ramadan show, but amazing even as a binge-worthy show.
