If it wasn’t so well shot, it would be unwatchable. It captures a certain strand of Manhattan snobbery brilliantly, but I just can’t bring myself to care for any of these characters. Still, doesn’t it just look and sound wonderful?

Man on the Moon 1999
Jim Carrey plays Jim Carrey playing Andy Kaufman. Your enjoyment probably swings on whether you find the man drop dead hilarious or excruciatingly irritating. I can’t imagine anyone falls in the middle.

Two Weeks Notice 2002
There’s potential but it really just becomes a slog. Bullock’s character needs to be spikier and angrier, Grant’s needs to be less of a clown. As it is, it’s just very difficult to get invested in anything that’s going on here.

Summer Holiday 1963
An obviously ridiculous storyline, taking a bunch of swashbuckling Brits (and Cliff Richard) on a red London bus through one stereotypical European land after another. The film is farcical but fun, a timewarp into what passed for comedy in 1960s Britain.
