Poor Things 2023
So disappointing. Could’ve been something so amazing narratively but instead is a perverse male fantasy seeped in pedophilia - she literally has the brain of a toddler! - packaged as a deep arthouse film. I don’t care that this is a hot take - it’s just so icky. I can appreciate the incredible set design, amazing score and beautiful cinematography (which was a bit overkill at times tbh). The performances were also great. This had all the components of being something so incredible and I was so excited to see it :/ instead it’s playing out the born sexy yesterday trope in such a gross way.
