i sit here now in this lonesome twilight hour with a nearly finished bottle in my hand asking myself why the hell i decided to watch this tonight of all nights in all places. i’m here in seattle and i’m drunk and kinda feeling sad for a while and i figured why the hell not, i could use a rewatch. but why? cause now i’m here sobbing without any control like a mad bastard for the first time in who…

The Godfather Part II 1974
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
It took me this rewatch to finally decide that not only do I prefer The Godfather Part II to the first film, but it is probably my favorite film ever. Al Pacino’s performance as Michael in the first film is absolutely amazing, but his one in the second film may be my favorite acting performance ever. The best examples of this are the subtle moments—those times when all he communicates with are his souless eyes. Michael’s character arc across these…

The Way of the Dragon 1972
These movies are kinda goofy but c’mon they’re fun man. Plus it’s my first Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris film. Honestly had no idea these two did a film together. Bruce Lee is just so badass.

The Doors 1991
I’ve been on a Doors kick lately so me and Ethan were just like fuck it let’s watch this but yeah man I just don’t dig it that much. Wildly inaccurate but Kilmer is the real highlight of the movie. He’s truly spectacular as Jim, especially when it comes to singing. The concert sequences are also amazing but that’s about it. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989
to me, this is the spielberg film that has that “spielberg charm” the most. while he’s made better films and raiders i’d say is the best indy film overall, crusade is my personal favorite and the most fun to watch. once sean connery is introduced it’s pure gold and comedy heaven. almost every line from him is either profound or hilarious. the chemistry between ford and connery is amazing. also, the ending is absolutely perfect and while i do enjoy the following two films, they aren’t nearly as good as any of the previous ones and crusade is about a perfect ending as you could get.

Brokeback Mountain 2005
Fuck man. Yes, Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight is one of the best in all of cinema but his depiction of Ennis is just so damn incredible and pointed. Jake is amazing too obviously, as is the rest of the cast. Don’t forget the beautiful and haunting score. Or the stunning landscapes that make me yearn for a trip out west. Kinda out of words because that ending was devastating and I’m not over it.
