I took my time getting through this documentary over the course of 6 months. Partly because it’s 17 hours long, and mostly because I didn’t want it to end.

I treasured every second of this journey through the history of New York, which is ultimately the history of America. On a technical level, what the creators do to transport the viewer to a specific time in history is astonishing. The combination of sound design, editing, narration, and archival materials was…

One of the most impressive Netflix series in recent memory. The one-take approach never became distracting. It pulled me into the story so deeply that I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen.

That final episode is both devastating and beautiful. I can’t stop thinking about those performances.

Overall, I enjoyed it, but I kept thinking this would’ve been better if it was an HBO show. It needed to be more dark and uncompromising. This had a network television vibe which I don’t think was the right tone.

Michael Keaton was magnificent as always. I really looked forward to every scene he was in.

I’m just in awe of how Scorsese, at 80, is still making movies full of vitality and energy. He now has masterpieces in SIX decades. We are blessed to witness it.

I’m equally in awe watching two of the best actors who ever lived bring this story to life. Leo does an brilliant job playing Ernest, and De Niro is so good at personifying evil.

And Lily Gladstone was magnificent as Mollie. I almost wish there were more scenes with her!

Oh and definitely my favorite Scorsese cameo!
