  a tale of two halves. a great setup, and then they descend into hell - that is, exposition upon exposition interrupted with occasionally tense, but often trite set pieces. a lot of telling me, and not a lot of showing me.

  there’s a lack of agency. but the film tells me, that is the point! yet it is still boring. there are flickers of something here: watching pornography, the implant, praying even when we know it doesn’t work, belief even…

  horribly, tragically, terrible. next time u want to do a serviceable ripoff-conjuring-aesthetic horror where a child gets possessed doing something they shouldn't have take notes from ouija: origin of evil. what a film. oh, and hire mike flanagan - not the man who completely killed the last franchise you gave to him
