My appreciation of this film depends on its interpretation. I hope it’s a story about addiction, but I fear it might just be bizarre rather than meaningfully profound. Regardless, it remains a unique and dynamic piece of work that I’ve enjoyed overall.

A spectacular movie, creative cinematography and outstanding performances. However, I was never a fan of Scorsese narrative sinful spirals and this one, maybe because of the “silent” and introverted nature of De Niro’s character, felt flatter than usual. This is further exacerbated by the selfish and unexplored humanity of the other characters, which only makes the grand finale feel all the more predictable. Personal preferences aside, the movie acts as a manifesto of abusive men and toxic masculinity, exposing the ill faith of those who lives reality through a set of biased, malicious lenses, adorning a violent body and a fragile, insecure mind.

Anything that is good about this movie comes straight from the original comic. All else is a clear lack of artistic vision coupled by soaring edginess and a tremendously boring outdated animation.

There is no clear demarcation between the two, there are only good or bad movies. Thus, there is no need to change the movie’s approach in relation to political or what some want to consider “sacred” matters, movies are not to be…
