shit made me feel like a kid again
a visually beautiful humanist film with the harsh reality hiding beneath it like you’re seeing it from the eyes of moonee. this is such a well-made film on childhood innocence surrounded by the reality of life i.e. poverty. this film showed how a child still understands when something is wrong more than what adults give them credit for. willem dafoe’s character is someone i think we all need in our lives.

this movie honestly made me feel incredibly dumb while watching it. each detail was so rich in intellectual creativity that it felt like i would never be able to pinpoint exactly what they represent. but that’s what i find most fascinating abt it. bergman’s analysis on the human psyche and his attempt to challenge the truthfulness of the façade we present to others will surely make you question yourself. bergman didn’t hold back on the “european avant-garde” with this one.
